TB Test in Houston (PPD Skin Test) | Walk-In, No Insurance

Tuberculosis (TB/PPD) test in Houston, TX. For work and school, in Spanish, no insurance needed.

Tuberculosis skin test (PPD) read at 48 to 72 hours, or a blood test (IGRA) with a single visit, for work, school, immigration or contact with a case. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Lawndale we do them without an appointment, Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM, in Spanish or English and without insurance.

PPD or blood test?

  • PPD (skin test): a small amount of tuberculin is injected under the skin of the forearm and you must return within 48 to 72 hours for the reading. It is the one most employers and schools request because of its lower cost.
  • IGRA (QuantiFERON or T-SPOT): blood test with results in a few days, no second visit. It is the test USCIS requires for the I-693 immigration exam and the recommended one if you received the BCG vaccine as a child, because BCG can cause a false positive on the PPD.

What does the result mean?

An induration of 10 millimeters or more on the PPD is positive for most people; 5 millimeters for people with HIV or recent contact; 15 for people with no risk factors. A positive result indicates latent infection or disease and does not distinguish between them: a chest X-ray and medical evaluation are needed, which we arrange at the same visit.

When should I get tested?

  • Hiring in healthcare, childcare, schools or food service
  • School or college enrollment
  • I-693 immigration exam (blood test required for anyone over 2)
  • Contact with someone with active tuberculosis
  • Cough lasting more than 3 weeks, afternoon fevers, night sweats or weight loss

What should I bring?

ID, the employer's or school's form, and the record of a previous test or BCG vaccine if you have it. No fasting needed.

How much does a TB test cost?

The PPD with reading and the IGRA blood test are priced individually. Ask for the price when you arrive or call us at (832) 530-4188: direct payment by cash or card, no insurance needed. A chest X-ray, if needed, is done at a nearby imaging center we refer you to.
