Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Testing

Confidential testing for HIV, syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia, hepatitis B and C, herpes and trichomonas, with same-day treatment when a result is positive. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Lawndale we see you without an appointment, in Spanish or English, without insurance and without judgment, Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM.

When should I get tested?

• After sex without a condom or with a new partner.
• If you have symptoms: burning when urinating, discharge, sores, warts, itching or pelvic pain.
• Once a year if you have new or multiple partners; every 3 to 6 months with higher risk.
• At the start of pregnancy, to protect the baby.
• If your partner tested positive.

Many infections cause no symptoms: chlamydia and gonorrhea are silent in most women, and syphilis and HIV can go years without signs.

Which tests do we run?

Keep the window period in mind: HIV is reliably detected from 2 to 4 weeks with lab tests and syphilis from 3 to 6 weeks. If the exposure was recent, we repeat the test.

What is the treatment?

Gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis and trichomonas are cured with antibiotics, which we prescribe the same day as the result. Herpes and HIV are not cured but are controlled with medication; for HIV we refer you to a treatment program in Houston, many of them free. Your partner must also be treated to avoid reinfection.

What about my privacy?

The result is given only to you, in person or by phone at the number you provide. Texas requires reporting some infections to the health department for follow-up purposes, not immigration.
