EKG Test in Houston | Walk-In, No Insurance Needed

An electrocardiogram (EKG) records the heart's electrical activity in 5 minutes, painlessly, and the doctor interprets it at the same visit. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Lawndale we do it without an appointment, Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM, in Spanish or English and without insurance.

When is an EKG needed?

• Chest pain or pressure, palpitations, shortness of breath or dizziness.
• Monitoring of high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol, to detect heart damage.
• Before surgery or before starting certain medications.
• Employment, sports or immigration exams that require it.
• Annual checkup from age 40 with risk factors or a family history of heart attack.

If you have intense chest pain spreading to the arm or jaw, with cold sweat or shortness of breath, call 911: it may be a heart attack and a clinic EKG does not replace emergency care.

What does an EKG detect?

Arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, signs of a recent or old heart attack, heart enlargement from high blood pressure, conduction blocks and changes caused by potassium or medications. It does not detect artery blockages at rest; that requires a stress test, which we refer you for if needed.

How is it done?

1. You lie down and 10 adhesive electrodes are placed on the chest, arms and legs.
2. The recording takes under a minute; the whole process about 5 minutes.
3. The doctor reads the tracing at the same visit and gives you a printed copy.

No fasting needed. Avoid lotions on the chest that day and bring your list of medications.

How much does an EKG cost?
