We perform the immigration medical exam (Form I-693) with a USCIS-designated Civil Surgeon and hand you the sealed envelope the same day in most cases. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Lawndale we see you without an appointment, in Spanish or English, Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM. Who needs the I-693 exam?

Anyone applying for permanent residence (Green Card) from inside the United States through Form I-485, and in some asylum, refugee or special-program adjustment cases. Since 2023, USCIS asks that the I-693 be filed together with the I-485 or when the officer requests it.

What does the exam include?

Medical history review and general physical exam.
TB blood test (IGRA) for anyone over age 2; if positive, a chest X-ray.
Syphilis blood test (ages 18 to 44) and gonorrhea urine test (ages 18 to 24).
Vaccine review by age: MMR, Tdap, varicella, hepatitis B, seasonal flu and others that apply. We give any missing ones at the same visit.
Completion and signature of Form I-693 (01/20/2025 edition) delivered in a sealed envelope.

The exam takes 1 to 2 hours. The TB test is processed at the lab and takes a few days, so the envelope is delivered when that result arrives.

What should I bring?

Valid passport or photo ID
Vaccination card or records, in any language
Relevant medical history and list of medications
If you had TB or a positive test before: previous X-rays and treatment records

How long is the I-693 valid?

An I-693 signed on or after November 1, 2023 has no fixed expiration date: it stays valid while the application it was filed with is pending. If USCIS denies it or you withdraw it, you need a new exam (policy in effect since June 11, 2025). Do not open the sealed envelope: USCIS rejects it if it arrives opened.

How much does the immigration medical exam cost?
