Flu & COVID Testing and Respiratory Illness Care

Flu and COVID testing and respiratory illness treatment in Houston, TX. Walk-ins welcome, in Spanish.

We run rapid influenza and COVID-19 tests with results in 15 minutes and treat flu, cough, bronchitis and sinusitis the same day, no appointment needed. At Clínica Hispana Nueva Salud Lawndale we see children and adults in Spanish or English, Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM, without insurance.

Is it the flu, COVID, a cold or allergies?

All four can cause congestion and cough, but they differ: influenza starts suddenly with high fever, body aches and intense fatigue; COVID-19 may cause fever, dry cough, sore throat and loss of smell; a cold is milder with no high fever; allergies cause sneezing and itching without fever. The rapid test removes the guesswork: in 15 minutes you know whether it is influenza A or B, COVID-19 or neither.

What do we treat?

  • Influenza: an antiviral (oseltamivir) if symptoms started less than 48 hours ago, plus medication for fever and discomfort.
  • COVID-19: symptom management and, for people at risk, an antiviral within the first 5 days.
  • Bronchitis and lingering cough: lung evaluation, an inhaler if there is wheezing and a syrup suited to the type of cough.
  • Sinusitis: decongestants, nasal rinses and antibiotics only if symptoms last more than 10 days or get worse.
  • Sore throat: strep test when there are white patches or fever without cough.

Antibiotics do not work against viruses; we prescribe them only when a bacterial infection is confirmed or very likely.

When should I come in the same day?

Fever of 102 °F or higher that won't come down, difficulty breathing, chest pain, blue lips, coughing up blood, or symptoms that worsen after improving. For babies under 3 months with fever, or anyone with severe shortness of breath, go to the emergency room.

What does the visit include?

  1. Vital signs and oxygen saturation.
  2. Throat, ear, nose and lung exam.
  3. Rapid influenza and COVID-19 test with a nasal swab, results in 15 minutes.
  4. Prescription, a doctor's note for work or school if you need it, and instructions to avoid spreading it at home.

How much does it cost?

The visit and the combined flu and COVID test are priced individually. Ask for the price when you arrive or call us at (832) 530-4188: direct payment by cash or card, no insurance needed.
